Feeling good about yourself has a lot to do with what you think—and what you don’t think.
There are many situations and events in your life that can bring you down. Losing something—or someone—important, getting a bad grade, dealing with a health problem, or feeling like you don’t fit in with other kids are just a few things that can cause you to doubt yourself or believe that you’re not enough. What do you tell yourself—in your mind—when you feel sad, worried, lonely, or upset? Do you put yourself down? Do you tell yourself that you’re not good enough, big enough, smart enough, or worthy enough? These are all negative thoughts that can creep into your mind, making you believe things about yourself that are unrealistic or outright untrue.
Positive Affirmations can change the way you see yourself and the world around you. They remind you of who you really are. They describe the traits and personal qualities that make you special.
When you’re feeling uncertain, remember that it’s okay to fail, lose, make mistakes, and not be good at certain things. It’s okay because no one is perfect. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Your weakness in one area means you have a great strength in another.
Forgetting how great you are sometimes is also okay. However, it’s important to remind yourself of your strengths. Remind yourself of what you can do, of the qualities that make you awesome. Use positive affirmations as your reminder, and read them daily. Keep them on your desk, in your book bag, or on your night table. Share them with family and friends. Whenever those negative thoughts creep in, read your positive affirmations. Believe in them, and you will be unstoppable.
